Satellite SentinelISS & Starlink tracker

Satellite Sentinel is a desktop ISS tracker that predicts the passes you can actually see from your house, counts down to the next one and tells you which way to look. It follows up to 100 Starlink satellites too.
The International Space Station passes over your head several times a day, but it’s only visible in narrow windows, when your sky is dark and the Station is still catching sunlight. Some weeks it shows up evening after evening; then it goes quiet for a stretch. Most people never see it, because seeing it means knowing the right night, the right minute, and the direction to face. That is Satellite Sentinel’s whole job.
It runs real SGP4 orbital mechanics (the same math used to track objects in Earth orbit) on fresh orbital data downloaded daily, and it only calls you outside for passes that are actually visible from your location: dark sky, sunlit satellite. When one approaches, the screen takes over with a countdown and a direction: LOOK NORTHWEST.

ON THE SCREEN
Four dynamic views
Pass Tracker
Side-by-side ISS and Starlink countdowns with elevation and pass quality.
Schedule
The next 24 hours of passes, up to three apiece for the ISS and Starlink, listed with time, peak elevation, and a visibility rating.
Orbit Map
A live world map: your location, the ISS ground track, and satellites moving in real time.
Living Earth
A 3D globe showing where it’s day and night right now, with city lights across the dark side. It marks the ISS, its path ahead, and the region within sight of it. A tap on VIEW centers it on the Station or your home, or lets it turn slowly.
Where is the ISS right now?
CONNECTINGACQUIRING ORBITAL DATA…
Live position, straight from orbit (via the wheretheiss.at public API). Your Satellite Sentinel tracks this 24/7 and predicts when it will pass over your house.
THE GOOD STUFF
Why space people love it
-
Real orbital mechanics
SGP4 propagation on fresh TLE data, refreshed every day, rather than a lookup table.
-
Smart visibility filter
Only alerts for passes you can actually see: your sky dark, the satellite sunlit.
-
“Look northwest”
Full-screen pass alerts with a countdown, compass direction, and elevation.
-
Pass quality ratings
Know whether tonight’s pass is worth stepping outside for before you commit.
-
Starlink too
Tracks up to 100 Starlink satellites alongside the ISS on a live orbit map.

IN THE BOX
- Satellite Sentinel unit, fully assembled
- Custom desktop stand
- USB-A to USB-C cable, about 3 feet (36 inches)
- Stylus (the touchscreen works fine with fingers, too)
No wall adapter is included. The cable’s USB-A plug goes into a USB-A phone charger or a computer’s USB-A port.
SETUP
- Plug it into a USB-A phone charger or a computer’s USB-A port with the included cable.
- On your phone, join the “SENTINEL-SETUP” WiFi network. If the setup page doesn’t open by itself, open a browser and go to 192.168.4.1.
- Choose your home WiFi from the list and type its password, then enter your zip code and choose your time zone. Tap Save & Connect.
- Done. It restarts, downloads fresh satellite data and has tonight’s passes ready in well under a minute.
START OVER
After a move, a new router or a new WiFi password:
- Hold the screen for 5 seconds.
- A red bar counts down, and at 5 seconds FACTORY RESET? appears. Lift your finger, then tap ERASE AND RESTART. Tapping CANCEL, or 15 seconds without a tap, changes nothing.
- It erases your WiFi network, location and time zone and restarts into setup. Join “SENTINEL-SETUP” and run setup again.

QUESTIONS
The ones that reach my inbox
Do I need a telescope to see what it points me at?
Satellite Sentinel calls you outside for passes you can see with your own eyes, without a telescope or binoculars. On a good pass the Space Station is brighter than any star in the sky, easily visible from light-polluted suburbs, and binoculars only make it a slightly bigger bright dot. The hard part was never the seeing; it was knowing the minute and the direction.
Why do visible passes cluster for a few nights and then vanish?
Satellite Sentinel’s pass list comes in streaks because visibility itself does. A pass is only visible when your sky is dark and the Station is still catching sunlight, and those two conditions overlap only in the hour or two around dawn and dusk. During a favorable stretch you might get visible passes several evenings in a row; then the orbit’s geometry drifts and you get nothing for days or weeks. That is orbital mechanics, not a fault.
Where do the predictions come from?
Satellite Sentinel downloads a fresh set of orbital elements every day and then runs SGP4 propagation on the device itself (the same math used to track objects in Earth orbit) rather than reading answers out of a lookup table. It predicts passes up to 24 hours ahead for your exact location and rates each one, so you know whether tonight’s is worth stepping outside for.
Can I get ISS pass times for my ZIP code?
Yes, for a US ZIP code. Satellite Sentinel asks for your ZIP code during setup and then predicts visible ISS passes for that location up to 24 hours ahead, with a countdown, a compass direction such as LOOK NORTHWEST, and a quality rating for each pass. It works in the United States only, and it lists the next 24 hours, not a calendar of the coming weeks.
Which satellites does Satellite Sentinel track?
Satellite Sentinel tracks the International Space Station and up to 100 Starlink satellites, and shows pass countdowns for the ISS and Starlink. It is not a pass predictor for every satellite in orbit.
What kind of WiFi does it need?
PlankLabs gadgets join a 2.4 GHz WiFi network. They don’t speak 5 GHz-only WiFi. That is the radio in the silicon rather than a software choice, and it comes with a consolation prize: 2.4 GHz travels farther and through walls better than 5 GHz, which suits a gadget that lives wherever it looks best rather than next to the router.
Does it get updates after I buy it?
PlankLabs gadgets update themselves automatically, over the air. When improvements, fixes, or new features ship, your gadget quietly downloads them on its own. You don’t have to plug in a cable, download a file, or click anything.
