Tide Station is a digital WiFi tide clock. Old tide clocks guess, with a 12-hour-25-minute dial and good intentions. Tide Station doesn’t guess. It pulls real-time water levels from NOAA sensors and shows you the actual state of your water: current height with a rising/falling arrow, the next high and low with live countdowns, and the day’s full tide curve with a “you are here” marker.
Around the tides it wraps the rest of a waterfront day: sunrise and sunset, a moon screen that dates the next spring or neap tides for you, and, at stations that report them, the current air and water temperature, wind and barometric pressure. Pick any of 200+ NOAA stations across the US and its territories, whether that’s your home water or the one you daydream about from your desk.

Five screens, tap to cycle
Now
The measured water level, how fast it’s rising or falling per hour, the day’s high and low, the next tide, and coastal conditions: air and water temp, wind and gusts, and pressure.
Today’s Tides
Every high and low for the day with times and heights, sunrise and sunset in their place, and a countdown on the next one.
Tide Curve
The day drawn as a curve of rising and falling water, with a marker showing where the tide is right now.
Next Tide
A big countdown to the next high or low and its predicted height, with sun time, temperature and wind underneath.
Moon
Tonight’s moon, shaded the way it looks in the sky, with its phase and percent lit, the dates of the next spring or neap tides, and today’s tide range measured against the largest one coming in the next 30 days. While it’s up, it plays a month of the moon’s real wobble on a slow loop.
Live from the Gulf
CONNECTINGACQUIRING NOAA SIGNAL…
Real-time water level from NOAA station 8747437 (Bay Waveland Yacht Club, Mississippi). Your Tide Station watches whichever of the 200+ stations you choose.
THE GOOD STUFF
Why water people love it
-
Real NOAA sensors
Live measured water level, refreshed every 10 minutes, not a mechanical approximation.
-
Countdown to the water
Next high and low tide with predicted heights and live countdowns.
-
The whole day at a glance
A dynamic tide curve with a “you are here” marker, plus a daily schedule with sunrise and sunset slotted in among the highs and lows.
-
Coastal conditions built in
Air and water temperature, wind and gusts, and barometric pressure, measured right now at stations that report them. These are current conditions, not a forecast.
-
The moon, and what it means
Tides follow the moon, so it gets a screen of its own: tonight’s phase, when the next spring or neap tides arrive, and how big today’s range is next to the month ahead.

QUESTIONS
The ones that reach my inbox
What if I’m not on the coast?
Tide Station needs a NOAA tide station to watch, and those live on US coasts, the Gulf, and tidal rivers and bays. For lake people or landlocked dreamers it still works beautifully watching a favorite coastal spot (the beach they visit every summer, say), but for local conditions inland, the weather station is the better gift.
How is it different from a brass tide clock?
Tide Station is a digital tide clock: it reads live water level from NOAA’s sensors instead of approximating one. A mechanical tide clock runs a 12-hour-25-minute dial and good intentions, which is why it drifts out of sync as the season goes on; this pulls the measured height every ten minutes, shows a rising or falling arrow, and counts down to the next high and low with their predicted heights. There is no dial to set by hand: you pick your NOAA station once at setup, and it remembers your station and WiFi through power outages.
Which station does it watch?
Tide Station watches whichever of the 200+ NOAA stations across the US and its territories you pick at setup: the harbor, the pier, or the bay by the beach house. It remembers that station and your WiFi through power outages, which beach houses provide free of charge. Not every station reports weather; at one that doesn’t, you get the tides without the conditions.
What is a tide station?
A tide station is a water-level gauge at one fixed spot, such as a harbor, a pier, a bay or a tidal river. NOAA runs a network of them and publishes the readings. Tide Station, the clock I build, shows live readings from any of more than 200 of them across the US and its territories, and you choose yours at setup.
Does Tide Station show the weather too?
Yes, as current conditions. Tide Station shows what your NOAA station is measuring right now beside the tide: air and water temperature, wind and gusts, and pressure. Not every station reports weather, and at one that does not you get the tides without the conditions. It shows no weather forecast; Storm Sentinel is the one that shows forecasts, alerts and radar, for a ZIP code in the lower 48 states. Besides the tide predictions, Tide Station also looks ahead to the moon: its Moon screen gives tonight’s phase and the dates of the next spring or neap tides.
What kind of WiFi does it need?
PlankLabs gadgets join a 2.4 GHz WiFi network. They don’t speak 5 GHz-only WiFi. That is the radio in the silicon rather than a software choice, and it comes with a consolation prize: 2.4 GHz travels farther and through walls better than 5 GHz, which suits a gadget that lives wherever it looks best rather than next to the router.
What happens if a data source changes or shuts down?
I make every reasonable effort to keep your PlankLabs gadget working, and updates arrive over the air on their own, but nobody can guarantee that an outside data feed will exist forever, and most gadgets depend on one. The hardware is always yours, and the data is for delight and general awareness, never for navigation, emergencies or safety-critical decisions.
FIELD REPORTS
From verified Etsy buyers
5 out of 5 stars
“This is truly USEFUL tide clock for serious mariners that allows you to access real-time NOAA data from over 200 US stations. The critical difference between this and the “classic” brass dial tide clock is that the NOAA information is complete (weather conditions, current water level, next high and low, visual tide curve, sun and moon cycles, etc.) and ACCURATE to the minute, while the old-style clocks are often off by more than an hour and are basically decorative in modern times. We love this tide clock and refer to it multiple times a day!”

“This was the first of three of these little gadgets I ordered up, this one as a gift, and I really love both the concept and execution. In this case, it provided a replacement for our old analog and increasingly inaccurate tide clocks, something that can simply be put up in a convenient spot and referenced casually. The design is very nice, simple but readable, and it’s been reliable since it was turned on. I do have a few wish list items on future editions (like a battery option), and the seller could not have been more receptive to suggestions. Read the description of the functionality, be assured that you will get what is described and it is carefully made.”

“It’s sitting in our entry and we see it multiple times a day. Thank you! I have so many questions about how you created it. Awesome work!”
